Kent Police report that a man who stabbed another man in the back following an argument in Deal has been jailed for seven years.

Tommy Holdsworth, 20, from Dover carried out the attack after his victim was chased down the street on Sunday 24 January 2016.

The court heard how Holdsworth had been involved in an argument with a group of men during the early hours who were visitors to the town. Following the row, the men were racially abused and then chased along Stanhope Road in Deal.

The victim, who had become separated from his friends, was cornered by Holdsworth in a local church yard. He was terrified as Holdsworth violently attacked him and stabbed him several times in the back.

Following police enquiries and forensic work, Holdsworth was arrested on Monday 13 June 2016 and subsequently charged with wounding with intent. He denied the charge but was found guilty by a jury at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 9 October 2017.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Natalie Davison said: ‘Kent Police will not tolerate anyone carrying knives or weapons in our community. This vicious and spontaneous outburst by Holdsworth could have cost the victim his life. Thankfully he was taken to a local hospital where his injuries were not life threatening.

‘Holdsworth is clearly a risk to the public and as a result of what he did will now serve time in prison.’
