The prospective parliamentary candidate for Folkestone and Hythe, Lynne Beaumont, has blasted Tory plans for pensions and social care included in their manifesto.

"Pensioners face having their savings, their incomes and even their homes plundered under Conservative Social Care and Pension plans," she says.

The plans, which will result in the value of homes being included in means testing for social care support, mean that many more pensioners, including those with low incomes, will be expected to pay for their support.

The Conservative plans also mean an end to the triple lock, which guaranteed that the basic state pension would rise in line with inflation, wage growth or 2.5%, whichever is higher.

Commenting on the plans, Lynne Beaumont said: "The Conservative plans amount to a dementia tax that penalises those who own their own home, in essence ignoring their ability to pay.

"Meanwhile, removing the triple lock will push more and more pensioners into poverty. Once again, the poorest and the most vulnerable will be hit hardest by Conservative cuts."
