Delighted pupils at The North School in Ashford were celebrating after their A level results showed a marked improvement on last year’s already strong performance.

Although the school has a history of achieving good A level results, this year saw further success, with more than three-quarters of students achieving A* - C grades (or equivalent), and almost half attaining A*- B grades (or equivalent).

“The results were better than last year in every possible measure,” said Nicki Hodges, Head of School. “While students did well across the board, our top scorer was Jess Bonfield, pictured at top of page, who achieved an A* in psychology, an A in English Literature and a B in law.”

Others doing particularly well were Grace Diddams (A,B,B), Ed Warburton (B,B,C), Louise McLatchie (B,C,C,D), Ben Hirst (B, Dist*, Dist*) and Lauren Best (Dist*, B,C).

“The results reflect a focus on intervention, a culture of high expectation, the support of other schools within Swale Academies Trust and the hard work of teachers and pupils over the past two years,” Mrs Hodges added.

“A large number of students have applied for university places this year, and all of them have been offered either conditional or unconditional places at universities including Kent, Southampton, Oxford Brookes, De Montfort, Surrey, Brunel and Greenwich.

“Given that the new specifications are said to be more difficult, it is pleasing to see not just a maintenance of good results but an improvement as well. It is a real tribute to pupils’ commitment and hard work.”

With standout subjects including English Literature, psychology, maths, photography and sociology, Mrs Hodges added: “It is also reassuring to see so many students securing places at university and continuing their education into the future.”
