Two men have been arrested following a report of the bulk theft of alcohol and an assault on a security guard at a Maidstone supermarket.
Kent Police was called at 9.35pm on Wednesday 16 December 2020 after it was alleged two people had entered the store in Romney Place and stolen quantities of high value alcohol.
When challenged, it is said a security guard was assaulted and threats were made by a man with a knife.
Shortly after, patrols located and arrested two men at Maidstone East train station and they were taken into custody.
A number of items believed to be stolen from the supermarket, as well as other town centre shops were recovered. These included bottles of spirts worth hundreds of pounds and items of designer clothing. Officers also seized some wire cutters.
A man from Brixton, Greater London, was later charged with theft, handling stolen goods, assault, possession of a knife in a public place and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
Another man of no fixed address, was charged with theft, handling stolen goods and possessing an article for use in the course of theft, namely wire cutters.
The Brixton man was bailed to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 22 February 2021. The second man was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 18 December.
