An appeal has been issued by investigators following a report of an attempted robbery in Maidstone.

At around 5.40pm on Thursday 21 January 2021, a woman in her 20s was walking towards the River Medway from the grounds of the Archbishop’s Palace in Bishops Way, when a man approached her from behind.

It is alleged he was holding a weapon and assaulted the victim while attempting to steal her handbag. A man then came to the victim’s assistance and the suspect ran from the scene.

He is described as being around five feet and five inches tall and was wearing a dark coloured jacket, hat and face mask.

Investigating officer, PC Alex Peacock, said: ‘While investigators are completing enquiries in the area, including the examination of CCTV footage, we are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident or saw somebody acting suspiciously, to contact us.’
