A suspected thief has appeared in court after allegedly assaulting and making threats towards emergency workers in Maidstone.

At 8.05pm on Monday 14 June 2021, a man went to Marks and Spencer in Week Street where it is reported he stole a quantity of clothing.

Arrest

Two days later, a suspect was detained in the High Street in connection with the incident.

Whilst in custody, a police patrol took him to hospital for medical attention where it is alleged he spat on a nurse and made threats towards her.

He is also said to have verbally abused officers who were present.

Charges

The man, from Maidstone, was later charged with theft, assaulting an emergency worker and two public order offences.

On Saturday 19 June, the 37-year-old, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court where he was released on conditional bail to attend Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 19 July.
