Folkestone & Hythe District Council has said will do what it can to help out with the UK resettlement scheme for those leaving Afghanistan.

Responding to the situation Councillor Jenny Hollingsbee, Folkestone & Hythe District Council Cabinet member for Communities, said: “Folkestone & Hythe District Council has worked to provide for Syrian refugee households for some time.

“Having watched the highly unsettling scenes in Afghanistan, we stand ready to support the government scheme offering resettlement opportunities here in the UK for those from Afghanistan most affected and in need at this time.

“Our aim would be to provide sustainable long term rehousing solutions, with support to ensure those that we assist are best able to seamlessly integrate into the local community, providing them with the best possible start.”
