A Folkestone man will appear in court alleged to have posted an offensive video on social media after the Euro 2020 final.

The clip appeared online following the England football team’s defeat to Italy on penalties on Sunday 11 July 2021.

Kent Police received a referral from the national UK Football Policing Unit after the video was linked to an address in the county.

A 49-year-old man from Folkestone, was arrested on Tuesday 13 July and later released from custody pending further evaluation of the case by the Crown Prosecution Service.

He has now been charged with sending a message via the internet that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.
