Personal belongings including a handbag, laptop and tools are among the items reported stolen after two properties and two shipping containers were broken into.
Folkestone
A property was targeted in Wood Avenue, Folkestone, between Saturday 13 November and the morning of Sunday 14 November 2021. A laptop, wallet and banks cards were stolen. Also in Folkestone, on Monday 8 November between 2.15pm and 6pm, a home in Salisbury Road was targeted. A handbag and cash were stolen.
Lydd
In Romney Road, Lydd, between 4pm on Thursday 11 November and 8.30am on Friday 12 November, two shipping containers were burgled. A generator, water bowser and tools were taken.
Officers in Folkestone are not linking the break-ins but are taking the opportunity to urge residents to check their security measures.
The autumn and winter months historically experience a rise in this type of offending when the extra hours of darkness, combined with people being out enjoying festive events and socialising, can give thieves the time they need to break in and steal valuable items.
Keep property safe
Homeowners are encouraged to make sure doors, windows, side gates and garages are all securely locked – even when people are at home. Thieves are opportunistic and may try door handles to see which ones are open.
Burglary alarms should be checked and turned on, along with any outside security lighting and residents should consider CCTV and marking valuable items to assist in identifying them if they are stolen and later recovered. Timers can also be used for internal lighting to make it look like the house is occupied.
