Dover District Council (DDC) has pledged support for the White Ribbon movement to end male violence against women.
In a cross-party show of unity, the Leader of the Council (Cllr Trevor Bartlett), Leader of the Opposition (Cllr Kevin Mills), Chair of the Scrutiny Committee (Cllr Charlotte Zosseder), and Chairman of the Council (Cllr Michael Conolly), along with DDC Chief Executive, Nadeem Aziz, together made their pledges to mark White Ribbon Day this Thursday, 25 November.
The White Ribbon movement encourages men and boys to pledge never to take part in, condone or stay silent about violence against women and to make this pledge by wearing a white ribbon on White Ribbon Day and a week or two afterwards.
Dover District Council is now working to achieve White Ribbon UK accreditation, as well as encouraging members, officers, and local schools to get involved.
Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Leader of Dover District Council, said: “Violence against women has been brought tragically into focus in the district this year. We must do everything within our power to end this misery, and to work with partners to end violence against women once and for all.”
Cllr Kevin Mills, Leader of the Opposition, said: “Male violence against women can never be condoned and we’re determined to do everything in our power to ensure women are safe. I am pleased that the Council is encouraging participation by councillors, staff and schools in the White Ribbon campaign.”
