A thief has been jailed after she stole a charity box from a supermarket in Swanscombe.

Nikola Tokorova was arrested on 17 November 2021 after officers recognised her as being responsible for the theft of a Poppy Appeal collection. The incident happened at a High Street supermarket on 6 November.

Tokorova, from Swanscombe was later charged with theft from the Royal British Legion and, on 9 December, pleaded guilty to the indictment at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court.

Sentenced

The 18-year-old was sentenced to 28 days’ imprisonment and ordered to pay £50 compensation.

Investigating officer, PC Mark Wood, said: ‘This woman is an opportunist criminal who stole cash intended to assist those who have served their country and are now in need of support.
‘She has shown no remorse for her actions and one can only hope that, after some reflection behind bars, she comes to realise how disgracefully she behaved.’
