Two people have been charged and cash seized as part of an investigation into a suspected brothel in Maidstone.

On Thursday 6 January 2022, officers from the town’s community policing team went to an address near Fairmeadow after concerns were raised for the welfare of the occupants.

Once inside, the officers’ enquiries led them to suspect the premises was being used as a brothel and a woman was arrested. A man was also detained outside the property and a quantity of cash was seized.

Charged

A man, aged 42, of London Road, Greenhithe and a woman, aged 32, of no fixed address, were later charged with causing or inciting prostitution for gain and possessing criminal property, namely the seized cash.

The man was also charged with managing a brothel.

The pair appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 7 January where they were remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 4 February.
