A suspect has been charged after a police officer was seriously injured in a collision on the M25 near Swanley.

At around 3pm on Sunday 23 January 2022, patrols and the police helicopter responded to reports of a suspected stolen motorcycle in north Kent.

The black and orange KTM Duke motorbike later joined the M25 near Dartford where it is alleged to have travelled against the flow of traffic.

Collision

At around 4.05pm on the anti-clockwise carriageway near Junction 3, the motorcycle collided with a roads policing constable who was out of his vehicle.

The officer suffered serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A suspect was arrested later the same day in Dartford.

On Monday 24 January, a man from Dartford was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, causing serious injury by driving dangerously and aggravated vehicle taking.

Court

On Tuesday 25 January, the accused aged 26, was remanded by Medway Magistrates’ Court to a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court on 22 February. 

Investigators are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have witnessed the incident to contact the appeal line.

They are also keen to hear from anyone with privately held CCTV, or motorists with dashcam footage that may assist the investigation.
