Two men have been remanded in custody following a report of a man being threatened with a firearm in Chatham.

At around 2pm on Sunday 30 January 2022, an occupant of a black Volkswagen Golf is alleged to have got out of the vehicle and confronted a man in Melbourne Road, threatening him with a firearm. It’s reported no injuries were sustained during the incident.

Following an investigation by Kent Police’s County Lines and Gangs Team, and searches at several locations, an imitation firearm, blank firing rounds, cocaine and cannabis were recovered from an address in London. The car reported to be involved was also located at the same property. A further quantity of cannabis was seized from an address in Croydon.

A 43-year-old man and a 21-year-old man have each been charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

The older man from Hither Green, has additionally been charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply and possessing cannabis with intent to supply. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 12 February, where he was remanded in custody to attend Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 14 March.

The younger man from Lower Sydenham, was due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 10 February. At the hearing, he was remanded in custody to attend Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday 10 March.
