A specially renamed ‘Platinum Jubilee Playground’ with an exciting play area upgrade is set to swing into action to enhance community facilities at Cowdray Square in Deal.

This extensive renovation is investing around £120k in new facilities, and follows key consultation with the local community. The works are being carried out by Safeplay Playground Services, and are set to start in April and to be completed within 1-2 months.

The renovation features inclusive play equipment, and a range of new items to suit all ages, including:

  • 3 cradle swings, a basket swing and a rope swing
  • Toddler and junior multiplay units
  • Spring rockers
  • Spinning dish
  • Zip wire/aerial runway
  • Inclusive roundabout suitable for wheelchair users
  • Picnic benches.

The items above are being funded from the Government’s Contain Outbreak Management Fund (COMF) for community parks allocated by Kent County Council.

Other renovations at the park include a new designated dog walking area, and new football goalposts, which will be funded by Dover District Council.

As part of the renovation, the new play facility is set to be renamed ‘The Platinum Jubilee Playground’ to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, alongside other activities and events planned around the district during 2022.

Cllr Oliver Richardson, DDC Cabinet Member for Community and Corporate Property said: “We are delighted to be able to use this funding to enhance this park for the community, to help encourage people to enjoy the fresh air in safe outside spaces, and to help mark this historic Platinum Jubilee year. Community parks provide a great place for parents and children to exercise, play and learn together.”
