Detectives are appealing for information after bogus charity workers tried to steal a watch from the wrist of a pensioner near Tunbridge Wells.
It is reported the victim was approached by two females shortly before 12pm on Saturday 12 March 2022, as he was getting out of a car at a location close to the A26 London Road and Rocks Hollow Gardens.
The suspects gestured to pieces of paper they were holding, intimating they were seeking donations for a hospital to help people who were deaf or blind.
Whilst pointing to the documents, one of the suspects is alleged to have held the victim’s arm and attempted to remove his watch. The watch was initially taken but dropped to the floor when the victim challenged them.
Car and descriptions
Both suspects then ran away and got into a car parked nearby, which was driven away by a third person. This vehicle was a white or silver VW Golf.
One of the females is described as being white, aged around 16, slim and five feet tall. She was wearing dark clothing.
The second suspect was also white, around 20, with a broader build and of similar height. She had short dark hair and dark clothing. She also wore a face mask.
Both of them are reported to have spoken with an Eastern European accent.
Detective Inspector Jim Farley said: ‘It is possible these people may have targeted other potential victims in and around the Tunbridge Wells area and we are urging anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious to contact us.
‘We are also asking relatives and neighbours to keep an eye out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may have unwelcome visitors to their doors.’
