Folkestone residents are being urged to check if they can access funding for energy efficiency improvements in their homes.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council is working with Warmworks to help residents take advantage of central government’s Green Homes Grant scheme.

The scheme can fund a range of energy efficiency measures including:

·       Wall insulation

·       Loft insulation

·       Renewable heating systems (such as Air Source Heat Pumps)

·       Double/triple glazing (to replace single glazing)

·       Energy efficient doors

·       Thermostats and heating controls.

Funding is available for homeowners, private tenants and those living in social rented accommodation. Homes must have a low energy rating.

Income of less than £30,000 a year

Those applying should have a household income of less than £30,000 a year, or are unemployed and receive an income, health or disability benefit.

Warmworks, with support from the Energy Saving Trust, will provide residents with free help including:

·       Carrying out an assessment of their property

·       Checking to see if residents meet the eligibility criteria

·       Providing residents with a report, recommending improvements for their home

·       Accessing the funding on residents’ behalf

·       Arranging the installation of the energy efficiency improvements

·       Carrying out a quality inspection of the work.

Cllr Lesley Whybrow, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “These grants are designed to improve the energy performances in the households that need it most.”

“Reducing a home’s carbon emissions also means lower energy bills, more people out of fuel poverty and homes that are comfortable and healthier to live in.”

Residents can find out more about this funding by calling 0808 196 8255 or visiting surveys.est.org.uk/s/GreenHomesGrantSchemeLAD  for more information.
