No mow Folkestone and Hythe kind to bees but colourful formal displays remain

Colourful displays across the town

Folkestone & Hythe is looking picture perfect this spring thanks to the hard work of the council’s grounds maintenance team.

A staggering 90,000 bulbs have been planted across the district in the past few months – and the results are looking pretty spectacular already.

Residents and visitors have been impressed yet again by the colourful displays found across Folkestone, including those planted in Cheriton and Radnor Park.

And the teams are already hard at work preparing for the summer planting which is expected to take place in early June.

There will also be a special carpet bed consisting of tens of thousands of plants created on The Leas to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Cllr John Collier, Cabinet Member for Property Management and Grounds Maintenance, said: “These displays make our district even more colourful and beautiful. It is hard work but I’m sure everyone will agree that it is definitely worth the effort.”

Bee Kind

The council’s grounds maintenance team also continues to develop the successful Bee Kind initiative. By protecting pollinators and leaving specific grass areas uncut, local wildflowers are able to thrive.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council currently has four Green Flag sites: the Royal Military Canal, Lower Leas Coastal Park, Radnor Park and Kingsnorth Gardens – Continuing to deliver quality parks and open spaces for all of the district remains high on the council’s list of priorities.
