Medway patrols have responded swiftly to detain a suspect for a knifepoint robbery soon after the incident.

At around 3pm on Tuesday 31 May 2022, a boy was riding an electric scooter in Darnley Road, Strood when he was approached by a teenager he did not know.

The teen is alleged to have shown the boy a knife tucked in his waistband and made threats, before stealing the scooter.

The victim later saw the suspect enter Rochester train station, still in possession of his property, and the police were alerted.

Attending officers detained the suspect and a member of the public recovered the victim’s scooter. A search also led to the seizure of a kitchen knife.

Following enquiries, the teenager was also arrested on suspicion of a knifepoint robbery the previous day. The incident in Cuxton Road, Strood was reported after another boy was threatened and his mobile phone and watch were stolen.

The 16-year-old, from Rochester, was later charged with both robberies and possession of a knife in a public place.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 1 June.
