A suspect is to appear in court following a report of an assault with a knife in Gillingham.

Kent Police was called at 11.17am on Thursday 16 June 2022, to Railway Street where a man had an injury consistent with a stab wound. He was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Arrest

Later the same day, Ahmed Moborat, of Byron Road, Gillingham was arrested in connection with the incident.

The 18-year-old was later charged with wounding and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

The suspect appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 17 June where he was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 15 July.

PC Catherine Barker, of Medway CID, said: ‘Our officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are urging witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to call the appeal line.
‘We are also asking motorists with dashcam and residents with private CCTV to check for footage around the time of the incident that may assist the investigation.’
