A driver stopped for using a mobile phone and not wearing a seatbelt also found himself arrested for drug offences thanks to eagle-eyed officers.

The Proactive Tasking Team were on patrol on the A2 Watling Street, Gillingham on Sunday 26 June 2022 when they saw the driver of a car using a mobile phone while at the wheel. When officers stopped the car, they also saw the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

Following suspicions there may be drugs in the car, the officers carried out a search and found what was believed to be cocaine and cannabis under the seats.

38-year-old man from Chatham was arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance or a licence, possession of class A and B drugs and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

He has since been released under investigation.
