A suspect has appeared in court charged with multiple counts of theft and fraud in Canterbury.

Following an investigation by Kent Police’s Chief Constable’s Crime Squad, a man was arrested on Wednesday 20 July 2022 in connection with a number of offences.

Joe Scott, of Bingley Court, Canterbury has since been charged with:

  • Burgling a house in the St Dunstan’s area of the city between Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 July and stealing a laptop and bank cards.
  • Five counts of fraud in relation to the use of stolen bank cards to buy alcohol, cigarettes and scratchcards between Sunday 26 June and Wednesday 20 July.
  • One count of theft in relation to hanging baskets stolen in Wincheap on 16 July.
  • Three counts of theft relating to the shoplifting of items from stores in Canterbury between Sunday 26 June and Wednesday 20 July.

The 33-year-old appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Friday 22 July and was remanded in custody to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 22 August.
