‘Stranger’ charged after pensioners in their eighties burgled

A suspect has appeared in court after two pensioners were victims of burglaries in west Kent.

On Wednesday 3 August 2022, a woman in her 80s is reported to have found a male stranger in her house near Tonbridge. After he had left she found that a quantity of jewellery had been stolen.

A second woman, also in her 80s, received a visit from a stranger at her address near Cranbrook on Saturday 6 August.

It is alleged he entered the house uninvited before leaving the premises.

Arrested

A man was arrested three days later, following enquiries by detectives from the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad.

David Cooper, of Cinder Hill Wood, Five Wents, Tonbridge was later charged with burglary and burglary with intent.

The 52-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 11 August where he was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 8 September 2022.
