Suspected burglars have been swiftly arrested and charged following a Maidstone burglary.

On Wednesday 10 August 2022, a resident at Brenchley House, Week Street reported their flat had been broken into overnight.

Investigators completed enquiries at the scene, including the examination of CCTV footage.

On Friday 12 August, two men were arrested and taken into custody.

Later the same day, Richard Lakeman, aged 20, of Pudding Lane, Maidstone and Nikita Vasiljev, aged 19, of Tufton Street, Maidstone were charged with burglary.

They appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 13 August where Mr Vasiljej was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 25 August. Mr Lakeman was remanded to appear back at the magistrates’ court on 19 August.

Two further suspects, aged 27 and 28, were detained on Saturday 13 August and Monday 15 August, respectively. The former, from Maidstone, was bailed to return to the police station on 10 September and the latter, of no fixed address, remains in custody while the investigation continues.
