Community groups in the district are invited to apply to the winter round of Dover District Council’s Community Grants scheme from today – as DDC announces payments of over £120k to 70 groups in the area for the summer round.

Building on the success of previous years’ schemes, the Council has increased the grant fund to £260,000 this year, to help local groups deliver their immensely important work in our local communities.

The grant has been split into two rounds for summer and winter, and includes £7,500 from the Dover District Lotto, (for every pound spent on the Lotto, 60p goes back into the local community).

DDC launched the summer round of the popular scheme in May, and has announced payments of over £121,400 to 70 local groups across the district, (see notes).

Community groups who benefitted from the summer round of the scheme include: Supporting Youth in Deal District (£3,633.33); Aylesham People’s Cinema (£2,308.72); Dover Outreach Centre (£3,300); East Kent Railway Trust (£2,490); and The Sunflower Dementia Centre in Sandwich (£3,333.33).

Community groups who benefit the local area can bid for community grants from £100 up to £4,000.  Bids for the winter round will be accepted from 22 August until 12 noon on 26 September 2022.

Terms and conditions for the grants scheme can be found on the DDC website.

Cllr Oliver Richardson, DDC Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and we are very pleased to be able to help so many local groups with our Community Grants scheme. As communities continue to face the rising cost of living, we have increased funding to help more people. We also welcome the extra funding that the Dover District Lotto continues to bring to the scheme.

“We hope that as many groups as possible apply for the winter round of funding, and we welcome community groups contacting us to help them make their application as effectively as possible.”
