Did you see man brandishing ‘meat cleaver’ outside Gravesend pub?

Police are seeking to identify four people who are believed to have witnessed a man brandishing a weapon in a street in Gravesend.

Officers have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident but are urging bystanders to contact them, as they may have important information.

Kent Police was called to a location at the junction of Perry Street and Wycliffe Row, Gravesend following a disturbance at around 10.40pm on 8 July 2022. It is alleged a man was using threatening behaviour and waving around a weapon, described as resembling a meat cleaver.

In the early hours of the following morning, a 53-year-old man from Gravesend was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. He was taken into custody and later released, pending further enquiries.

An investigation is ongoing, which has so far included the extensive review of CCTV in the local area. Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward, who have yet to speak to the police. They are particularly keen to hear from four people who were drinking outside a nearby pub, including one person who is said to have offered a cigarette to the suspect.
