PCSO Nicholas Hazell is alerting those in rural areas who use heating oil to be aware of an increase in the number of thefts.
He warns that it’s an issue that will predominantly effect the rural communities, but for the benefit of anyone who uses heating oil to run their home he points out the increasing cost.
This makes the heating oil all the more desirable to thieves at this time and it is a crime type that is showing an increase.
I would advise anyone who uses heating oil to look at what security measures they have in place and consider installing security lighting, or even CCTV.
Other options would be making access more difficult by locking side gates, driveways, or parking vehicles in front of points of access.
Another possibility would be to block lines of sight, so would be thieves cannot easily identify your property as a target or locate your fuel store as easily.
Lastly, if you see anything suspicious of note, please feel free to contact Kent Police via 101, or one of our online reporting tools on the Kent Police website.
