The Chairman of Dover District Council has expressed a message of great sadness and condolence on behalf of the district following yesterday’s announcement of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll. 

Cllr Michael Conolly, Chairman of Dover District Council said: “We are deeply saddened to hear the announcement of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll.

“I will be expressing the district’s great sorrow and our deepest sympathies to the Royal Family in a letter of condolence to the Royal Private Secretary, as communities join together in sadness following the death of the longest serving monarch in British history.

“We will be flying flags at half-mast at Council buildings across the district. Books of condolence and areas for floral tributes will be announced shortly. 

“Her Majesty the Queen has a special place in the hearts of our local communities in Dover District. 

“During her reign, Her Majesty the Queen visited the district on a number of occasions, and communities joined together for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations this summer. We share the feelings of loss and sorrow felt all over the world at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whose life has been devoted to the service of her country as well as advocating peace and the importance of nations working together.”
