Margate Police Station
A stolen motorbike is to be returned to its owner following quick arrests by officers in Broadstairs.
The motorcycle was reported stolen from the town centre at 1.20pm on Thursday 22 September 2022.
Officers attended the scene and, following enquiries, two men were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle in the area around an hour later. The motorbike has been recovered and will be returned to its owner.
The two men arrested, who are aged 23 and 22 and are both from the Thanet area, have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Following the incident, local officers are advising motorbike and moped owners to take steps to make sure their vehicles are secure.
Inspector Ian Swallow, of Thanet Community Safety Unit, said: ‘To reduce the chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime, we advise owners to park their bikes out of sight, in a garage or secure back garden.
‘Always lock, chain and cover your bike and if you have to leave it in a public place, find somewhere that is well-lit and, ideally, is overlooked and covered by CCTV.
‘Also consider fitting a tracking device, so that we can locate and hopefully return the bike in the event that it is stolen.’
