Green Light for new homes at Richmond Park Image: DDC
Plans to build another 249 homes as part of the Whitfield Urban Expansion have been given the planning permission by Dover District Council.
The one, two, three and four-bed homes by Barratt Kent, on land to the south of Archers Court Road, will be alongside the new Whitfield Aspen School satellite site and a new Co-op store.
DDC has also granted permission for a reserved matters application for 58 homes. Both schemes form part of the development known as Richmond Park.
5,750 homes
Whitfield was identified in DDC’s Core Strategy as a location for major urban expansion with land allocated for the development of up to 5,750 homes.
Around 170 homes have already been built as part of Phase 1 and outline planning applications for more than 1,400 units, a 66-bed care home, health and social care centre, and retail space have been granted permission. This is together with separate approvals adjacent to Sandwich Road and Singledge Lane.
Fastrack bus system
The new dwellings, which includes affordable homes, will be supported by a range of infrastructure including a primary school, community facilities as well as a new Fastrack bus system.
Dover Fastrack – a rapid, zero-emission bus service – will connect the new housing at Whitfield with Dover town centre and Dover Priory train station.
Cllr Nicholas Kenton, cabinet member for planning and environment, said: “The approval of these two planning applications as part of Whitfield Urban Expansion is an example of the ambitious growth taking place in the district.
“This new development at Whitfield will deliver new homes for local families and help first-time buyers get on the property ladder.”
A spokesperson for Barratt Kent said: “These plans will enable us to continue to provide much-needed housing to local families and first time buyers, and will see the launch of an additional 249 homes under our David Wilson brand later this year, alongside the agreed development of a new primary school and convenience store.
“To date, Richmond Park has seen 84 reservations from prospective homebuyers, 69 of which have already moved into their new homes.”
