Dozens reported for traffic offences during Canterbury road safety operation

Twenty-four people were reported for driving offences during a road safety operation in Canterbury.

Officers from the Kent Special Constabulary carried out a series of traffic checks on Saturday 15 October 2022, stopping 58 vehicles.

Patrols were based in Broad Oak Road and Blean Hill.

Out of the 24 traffic offences reported by officers, six were for using a mobile phone, five were for not wearing a seatbelt, four for not having a correctly displayed registration plate and three for light defects. Other motorists were also reported for incorrectly tinted windows, speeding, load offences and one person had an unsecured dog while travelling.

Ten reports were made to the DVLA for vehicles without vehicle tax or correctly displayed number plates.

Special Inspector James Johnston said: ‘Forty-one per cent of drivers stopped by us were reported for offences. While not many were seen speeding, it is still concerning that so many people were committing other offences or had defects with their vehicles.

‘As the winter approaches and driving conditions get more challenging, we are reminding people to take time to check their vehicles over. Make sure the lights are working, your paperwork is up to date and leave your phone alone once you are behind the wheel. Concentrate on the road ahead and play your part to keep our roads safe.’
