A suspected moped thief has been arrested after a foot chase by officers in Larkfield.

The man was detained on Friday 21 October 2022, after uniformed patrols had been in the New Hythe Lane area responding to reports of antisocial behaviour involving several motorcycles.

They spotted one rider on a moped who was parked and who attempted to drive away but fell from the vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot but was quickly detained by pursuing officers.

A 25-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving while under the influence of drugs and for having no licence or insurance. He was later released from custody, pending the outcome of further investigation.

Enquiries revealed the moped had allegedly been stolen from the Swanscombe area. The victim has been contacted and the bike will be returned to them.
