Investigators are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in Gillingham.

At around 6pm on Friday 7 October 2022, the victim entered a shop in Linden Road where she was approached by a man she knew.

Following an altercation, they got into a car where it is reported the suspect assaulted the woman and damaged her clothing and a necklace.

The vehicle stopped near Marlborough Road and the man and woman got out. It is understood a member of the public checked on her welfare before they got back in the car and drove away.

The incident was reported to the police later that evening and on Saturday 8 October a man was arrested.

Investigating officer, PC Chelsea Clare said: ‘We are appealing for anybody who witnessed the altercation at the shop in Linden Road to call us.

‘Investigators would also like to hear from the member of the public who intervened near Marlborough Road’.

A man aged 19, from Gillingham was charged on Sunday 9 October with assault and criminal damage.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 10 October, where he was bailed to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 7 November.
