Detectives are investigating the circumstances of an incident in which a Home Office migrant centre in Dover was attacked with incendiary devices on Sunday morning.

Kent Police confirmed they were called at 11.22am on Sunday 30 October 2022 to a Home Office immigration premises at The Viaduct in Dover.

Devices thrown

Officers established that two to three incendiary devices had been thrown outside and into the premises by a single suspect who arrived at the scene in a car.

Two people reported minor injuries from inside the property.

The suspect was identified, and very quickly located at a nearby petrol station, and confirmed deceased.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit attended the location to ensure there were no further threats.

Another device was found within the suspect’s vehicle and confirmed safe.

700 migrants

The site remained open, however around 700 suspected migrants were relocated to the former airport at Manston to ensure safety during the initial phase of the police investigation.

Police have said: “This is not currently being treated as a terrorist incident and detectives are keeping an open mind while the investigation continues.”
