Christmas greetings designed by two young people from Folkestone have been dropping through letterboxes and email inboxes across Kent.

Designs by Daniel (15) and Connor (12) from The Beacon school in Folkestone, were chosen for the 2022 Christmas card sent by the council leader Cllr David Monk, and the electronic card sent by the council’s chief executive Dr Susan Priest.

Cllr Monk said: “The young people at The Beacon created some marvellous designs and I am very grateful for the time they spent helping us.

“Choosing just two was a tough decision but Daniel’s use of the council logo and Connor’s choice of bright colours won it for them in the end.”

On Wednesday (14 December) Cllr Monk presented the boys with art materials and framed copies of their designs.

Teacher Sarah Reeve explained: “Learners at The Beacon flourish when given the opportunity to be involved in community projects and they were absolutely thrilled to be asked to take part. They took pride in creating their designs, understanding the importance of the task and also enjoyed listening to Christmas music whilst doing so!

“Involvement in the wider community outside of school is important for their development and gives them a sense of place in the community. I am very proud of their efforts, enthusiasm and wonderful designs!”

A full gallery of the other excellent artworks produced by The Beacon pupils can be found on Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s Facebook page later this week.
