Peter Jurzynski – Folkestone’s American Cousin – in the town during a recent Christmas spent in the UK
Well it is time for my annual Christmas greeting to the wonderful people in the Folkestone corner of Kent but sadly my cancer diagnosis means I won’t be able to visit this Yuletide.
There have been lots of political changes in UK this past year and I followed every step of it avidly in the UK and and from here in the USA.
With high energy costs, strikes and inflation I wonder if it will be the repeat of the winter of discontent.
Minus the strikes, we are facing similar situation here and beyond the economic issues we are facing there is a massive crimewave which I have not seen in my lifetime.
I had a wonderful three months in Folkestone this year but unfortunately I will not be back this Christmas after a reaction from Chemo that included a lung infection and sepsis. I will be in home isolation until Tuesday.
I’m doing well with the cancer and I hope to resume chemo either Tuesday or 3 January.
Being in my own home in a solo situation with my sister bringing me meals is unique.
I have watched more British and American crime TV that I could be a Detective Constable, plus reading or watching the Royals, the celebrity, and the celerity polls.
Whatever happened to Matt Hancock!?
Being in my own home in self imposed isolation is sure different than visiting Folkestone at Christmas.
The moral of my letter is this.
National or global politics, inflation, energy costs are serious but there is little an individual can do about it.
What I learned this year is keeping things in perspective.
I am happy and willing to fight my health challenge like I fought the waves tides and cold temperatures of the English Channel. My fight is going well so far – minus a few setbacks.
Happy Christmas to you all !!
