Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is opening its doors to offer residents the chance to pop-in for a free hot drink and a warm place to be for the day.

Two venues will be used as part of the ‘MBC Community Hub with a Warm Welcome’ project which will be the Maidstone Museum and Trinity from the beginning of January continuing through the winter months.

The Council’s Community Hubs are offering places within the town centre where people can be assured of finding a safe, warm and friendly environment in which to enjoy refreshments, social activity, information and the company of other people.

The MBC project starts at the Museum from Wednesday 4 January and at Trinity on Monday 9 January and will be available to anyone who would like to visit when they are open as follows:

  • Maidstone Museum –from 4 January every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday between 10am – 4pm
  • Trinity Community Hub, Church Street, Maidstone – every Monday from 9 January between 9.30am and 12noon

MBC Lead Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Engagement – Cllr Lottie Parfitt Reid said: As the cost of living and heating our homes increases, the Council is looking at supporting our residents in as many different ways that we possibly can.  As part of this, we are opening two of our venues to offer a community hub with a warm welcome at the Museum and Trinity.

These hubs will be offering free tea and coffee, biscuits, activities and books and a warm welcome to all residents looking for a post-Christmas cuppa and a friendly chat this winter.

Trinity is Maidstone’s newest community hub which opened its doors in the town centre in September. Based in Church Street it is open seven days a week as a multi-use communal space providing assistance, advice, community health services, support for local people and accommodation to those who are homeless along with temporary and settled accommodation.

Each winter Maidstone Museum closes its doors for maintenance work and will do so on Saturday 17 December 2022, however, the team will be opening the space, formally used as a café, for residents to enjoy as a warm welcome space.

Homes and Communities is one Maidstone Borough Council’s four priorities and the work being carried out at the Community Hubs with a Warm Welcome reflects that.
