So Christmas dinner is a memory, the decorations await their return to the cupboard for another year, but what about the Christmas tree you say? How about letting the lifeboat crew at Margate recycle it and make a donation towards saving lives at sea.

Thanks to the generosity of Joseph Weitzel of Margate-based Top Branch Tree Services, (www.topbranch.uk) Joseph and volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew members will be on hand at Margate’s RNLI lifeboat station between 9.30am and midday on Sunday 8 January when members of the public or even businesses can drop off their Christmas tree to be recycled in a sustainable way.

Joseph explained: “Woodchip will be tipped off, maybe at Quex Park for their paths or perhaps at local allotments but if you have anyone who wants some, then they are welcome to them as there will be plenty!”

If people can’t make the Sunday, the tree can be left at the boathouse between 6pm and 8pm the previous Wednesday 4 January for chipping on the Sunday.

There is no charge for the service but any donation towards the charity’s work of saving lives at sea will be much appreciated. Visitors will also be welcome to look around the lifeboat station and meet the crew on the Sunday morning, children will be particularly welcome to have a close look at the lifeboats.

The Lifeboat Station is situated at The Rendezvous, Margate, CT9 1HG on the promenade next to Turner Contemporary at Margate harbour.
