View of the Old High Street road closure in Folkestone Photo: Ray Duff

Story and photo by Ray Duff – Part of Folkestone’s historic Old High Street had to be shut to pedestrians and vehicles near to it’s junction with Tontine Street today, Thursday 12 January, reportedly due to a building at risk.

Work was taking place erecting scaffolding beside numbers 56-58, opposite the Folklore Bar, and the road and footpaths were completely closed.

It’s understood work had been undertaken on replacement windows at a nearby building but it is not known if it’s the same one which could have a possible subsidence risk.

It is not currently known how long the road will need to be closed off.

Other premises in the Old High Street, above and below the area, are not currently affected, though some residents in the flats above the affected buildings could find access problematic.
