A burglary suspect from Paddock Wood has been charged in connection with allegations he targeted elderly victims living on their own.

On Monday 23 January 2023, police were called to a report that a man had entered a property near Loose Road, Maidstone after knocking on the door of a woman aged in her 70s.

The suspect is alleged to have offered to do gardening work for the victim, who is registered as disabled, before entering the address and stealing £150 from a handbag.

Charges and other offences

Ambrose Treeby was arrested on Wednesday 25 January and later charged with burglary.

He was further charged with another count of burglary and a fraud, in relation to an incident on 15 August 2022, when a cheque is reported to have been stolen from an address in Borough Green.

£20,000

It is alleged the cheque was then used in a bank to defraud £20,000 from the victim, a woman aged in her 90s.

Treeby, 39, from Paddock Wood was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 26 January.
