On 14 July 2022, a man was waiting to withdraw cash from an ATM in Chatham High Street when Joseph Tullett approached and started talking to him.
As the man entered his PIN number, Tullett suddenly pushed him over and stole the money as it was dispensed.
Tullett, of no fixed address, was identified by local officers from CCTV near the scene and arrested on 20 July.
Charged
He was charged and pleaded guilty to robbery at Maidstone Crown Court.
On Thursday 9 February 2023, the 37-year-old was sentenced to three years and six months’ imprisonment.
PC Harry Groves, of the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad, said: ‘Tullett is an opportunist criminal who robbed a man at an ATM having engaged him in conversation. His actions were appalling and he showed no concern for his victim as he made off from the scene having stolen his cash.
‘This sort of violent behaviour blights our town centres and a prison sentence sends out a firm message that such offending is entirely unacceptable.’
