Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the Coastguard were called to Herne Bay Pier this morning, 24 February) to rescue a man stuck in mud after walking along the coast at low tide.

Two fire engines and the Coastguard attended, and inflatable mud paths were used to reach the man and bring him to safety after he became stuck up to his knees.

Firefighters are urging people to take care when walking out on beaches during low tide, to avoid areas of sinking mud, and to be aware of tide times to avoid being cut off from the shore.
