More than £50,000 in cash has been seized after officers stopped a suspicious vehicle in Gravesend.

The money was recovered after a man reportedly failed to stop when instructed by police and drove the vehicle dangerously, almost colliding with emergency workers.

The car initially came to the attention of a patrol, at around 10am on Thursday 2 March 2023, in the Ifield Way area. It is alleged attempts were made to drive the vehicle from the scene, before the suspect was arrested. A bag was seized containing around £20,000 in cash, as well as a quantity of powder, believed to be MDMA.

Following the arrest, officers conducted a search warrant at a residential property in Lanters Way, London, where they recovered a further £34,000 in cash.

A 40-year-old man from Bethnal Green, London, was later charged with possession with intent to supply MDMA, possession of criminal property (namely the seized cash), obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty, dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident, and failing to provide a specimen.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 3 March and was released on conditional bail pending a further hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 31 March.
