Kent Police was alerted to a theft of fuel in Beechings Way on Tuesday 14 March 2023.
Officers arrived at the scene where they spotted the suspected vehicle involved and pursued it to Cuxton Road where it came to a stop, but when officers approached, the suspect then drove off again.
He then pulled over and made off on foot but was quickly arrested and taken into custody.
The 27-year-old from Croydon was arrested on suspicion of theft, theft of a motor vehicle, going equipped, making off without payment and driving while disqualified.
He has been bailed while enquiries continue.
