Work is due to begin this week on a mature copper beech tree located next to Grade II listed Repton Manor.
The tree, estimated to be between 120-150 years old lies just nine metres from Repton Manor, which is over 400 years old and, according to the Historic England listing entry, has sections dating from the 15th, 16th 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries.
To help protect the historic manor and retain the tree, a beautiful landmark in the area, a root barrier will be installed below ground.
The first part of the works requires the crown of the tree to be reduced by up to two metres before the root barrier can be put in place. This reduction will ensure that the tree remains healthy once the barrier is installed, mitigating the effects of the root loss.
Further maintenance of the soft grass verge beneath the tree canopy will also be required to provide the best conditions for the copper beech to thrive thus preserving this important natural landmark.
