Folkestone & Hythe Conservative Association has announced its candidates for the upcoming local elections with a ‘full slate’ of thirty hopefuls.

According to the association, it’s the only party with a ‘full slate’ in the area.

The local Tory association says the achievement starkly contrasts with rival parties, some of which have formed pacts that limit voters’ choice and others who have failed to find candidates despite promising to do so.

Local independent candidates

However, in contrast, the BBC has reported what it describes as a ‘quiet revolution’ which has been going on in town halls across England and Wales, with voters turning their backs on the major Westminster parties in favour of local, independent candidates.

In the 3 years between 2017 and 2020, figures indicate that Independents have seen a 46% increase in the number of seats held.

Voting in the local elections takes place on 4 May 2023.
