Bank Holiday crowds flock to Furley Page 10K race in Whitstable

Thousands of people gathered in Whitstable to watch more than 800 runners complete the popular Furley Page Whitstable 10K road race, which was held on Bank Holiday Monday, 1 May 2023.

It was Joshua Alan Teece of Central Park Athletics who took the top spot again this year as he raced home in an impressive 32 minutes and 36 seconds. Barry Stephenson gained second place, while Harry Paton came in third.

Rebecca Weston ran home in 38 minutes 9 seconds as first female, closely followed by Amy Seager and Abbe Clarke in second and third.

Local law firm Furley Page, which entered its own team, sponsored the event for the second year.

Anna Joiner, a Partner based at the firm’s Whitstable office, said: “The Furley Page Whitstable 10K is a fantastic community event which promotes health and wellbeing, while attracting thousands of visitors to the town over the Bank Holiday.

“As a local business, we were delighted to have the opportunity to be lead sponsor again this year. We’ve received tremendous feedback on this year’s event, which provided a wonderful spectacle and proved once again why the Whitstable 10K is one of the most popular events in Kent’s sporting calendar.”

Organised by Canterbury Harriers running club in partnership with Sporting Events UK, the Whitstable 10K is now in its 23rd year, and the popular running race attracts thousands of entries from runners keen to test their endurance and push for a personal best along the mainly flat seafront course. The race sold-out the day entries went live, with a waiting list of more than 300.

Melanie Christodoulou is a Senior Associate at Furley Page and Chair of Canterbury Harriers. She said: “We had ideal running conditions for the event, and we were delighted to see such a fantastic turnout from competitors and supporters alike. Congratulations to all those who took part and completed the course!”
