A report of a yacht aground off Reculver between Herne Bay and Birchington saw the Whitstable Atlantic 85 lifeboat Lewisco launch to assist the stricken yacht, with three people, aboard early on Tuesday morning. (9 May)

Helmsman Dave Parry said: “We launched at 06.48am and located the 42-foot craft hard aground and listing on the Hook Spit sandbank 2-miles off Reculver.

“We checked on the condition of the 3 occupants onboard and one female requested to be taken ashore whilst the 2-males opted to remain onboard to await refloating on the tide later in the day. The craft had been on passage from Queenborough to Ramsgate when they went aground”

“We then returned to Whitstable where the female sailor was landed ashore at the lifeboat station. She was unharmed and happy to wait for friends to collect her and take her home.”

This was the 7th call of the year for the volunteer crew’s at Whitstable lifeboat station.
