Suspect arrested following a report of a serious assault in Rochester

Kent Police was called to an incident in the High Street at its junction with Star Hill, Rochester at around 9.30am on Friday 12 May 2023.

Patrols along with South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where a 19-year-old man was treated for an injury consistent with a stab wound.

Serious condition

He was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a serious condition. A second man is reported to have suffered minor injuries during the incident.

A 20-year-old man was arrested and an investigation into the circumstances is underway.

Detective Inspector Paul Fewtrell, of Medway CID, said: ‘Members of the public were involved in initially detaining the suspect and I am asking any of them who have not yet spoken to the police, to call our appeal line. We are also appealing for anybody else who may have witnessed this incident to contact us.

‘It is understood some people may have taken photographs or videos on their phones and I would urge them to call us, rather than sharing any images online.’
