Man charged with attempted murder after two Rochester assaults

A suspect from Surrey is to appear in court charged with two attempted murders in Rochester.

Kent Police was called to a report of a serious assault in the High Street at its junction with Star Hill, at around 9.30am on Friday 12 May 2023.

‘Stab wound’

Patrols along with South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where a 19-year-old man was treated for an injury consistent with a stab wound. He was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition. A second man is reported to have suffered minor injuries during the incident.

A man was arrested and investigators commenced an investigation into the circumstances.

Attempted murder

On Saturday 13 May, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised two charges of attempted murder against a 20-year-old man. He was also charged with possessing a bladed article in a public place and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

The accused, from Caterham, Surrey, was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 15 May.

Investigators are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anybody with information to call the appeal line. They would especially like to hear from anyone who travelled past the area between 9.15am and 9.45am who may have dashcam footage of the incident or those involved.
